At the end of the holidays, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 8 PM, we invite you to the OPEN-AIR CINEMA UNDER THE CASTLE STARS at Podsreda Castle.
Under the castle stars, we will watch the Spanish family film “Full of Grace” (Llanos de gracia). This subtitled film from 2022 is based on the true story of Spanish footballer Valdo. It tells a warm story about football, nuns, and a mischievous eleven. The film is full of humor, warmth, and heartfelt dedication.
About the Film: During the holidays, a group of boys from the El Parral boarding school must stay within the monastery walls for the entire summer as they have no families or homes to return to. To keep them entertained, they invent numerous mischievous pranks that annoy the locals. The mother superior is fed up with them and assigns the care of the boys to the new sister Marina. However, Marina is not an ordinary nun. To tame the boys, she forms a football team and becomes their coach, guardian, and driver. Together, they create a makeshift field full of holes and a rickety goal. They bond as a family they never had. But a new danger looms: the El Parral boarding school is set to close. Can the team spirit of this heartfelt group overcome all obstacles?
The director was inspired by the real-life story of football player Valdo, who trained at the famous Real Madrid football school and played for several top Spanish clubs. He grew up in the El Parral orphanage. His story became public when he lifted his sports shirt during a match to reveal a message: “Thank you, Sister Marina!”
Reviews: “Full of Grace concludes this year’s Málaga Film Festival by ticking all the required elements – it’s a family-friendly film, fun, with a positive message, and talks about football. /…/ With its gentle moralizing about old-fashioned values of team dedication and respect, it’s exactly what modern parents would want to show their kids.” – Jonathan Holland, Screendaily
“Roberto Bueso in ‘Full of Grace’ revives the essence of good old comedy and modernizes it into simple, direct, shyly provocative fun for all viewers, while maintaining a close connection with our deepest emotions.” – Juan Pando, Fotogramas
